Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way How Impressive (102) – At no stage during the race did he travel with any zest, looking laboured on the home turn and hanging right. Not the same horse from his last four performances.
2.5pts win Dear My Friend (96) – Not the Dear My Friend we know from past performances, with the horse trailing in last beaten twelve lengths. A vet’s examination had nothing to report, and a trainer’s rep could offer no explanation for the poor performance.
Today’s Advice
Walk Of Stars (1600m) – This five-year-old has been improving with each run this season at Meydan over 1900m, and has a notable fifth pace behind Dubai World Cup fancy Kabirkhan in the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge. He stepped forward again on the clock last time out finding only Military Law too good in a Group 2. The drop back to 1600m may be too sharp for him in today’s (12.05) Meydan, but with a kind draw in stall three and trail blazers Isolate and Saudi Crown set to lead from wide draws he may just come into this race at the finish and pick up the pieces. He looks worth a small interest at a decent price to do just that. I would recommend punters to seek out extra place markets with their bookmakers, but for the purpose of this column it will be a small each way bet for three places.
Siskany (3200m) – The Tower Of London formline from Riyadh looks all the rage judging by the market, and it certainly was a huge performance on the clock from all involved at the finish. I am going to take a chance that those involved in that race might have left their best efforts behind them on that day, and side with the consistent Siskany in today’s (12.40) Meydan who has been showing a nice turn of foot at the end of his recent races, and was just worried out of this prize last year at the finish by Broome. There is a small concern that two miles might be half a furlong too far for him, so I am hoping he can be produced a little later than usual.
Ramiro (7f Hcap) – Conditions for today’s (2.55) Cork look to be right for this eight-year-old who bumped into one way ahead of his handicap mark in Janoobi at Naas last Sunday. Seven furlongs on Heavy ground would appear to be his ideal conditions, and prominent racers Spanish Tenor and Coumshingaun should provide a decent pace to aim at. He looks worth a small play at the prices to come on from his seasonal debut.
Berkshire Phantom (7f 36y Hcap) – This four-year-old caught the eye last time out when not getting a clear run on several occasions behind King Of York at Southwell over seven furlongs. As a hold up performer he likes pace to aim at and should get that in tonight’s (7.30) Wolverhampton with the likes of Eagle Day, Blue Yonder and Surprise Picture in the line-up. He looks ahead of his handicap mark at the moment considering he was rated as high as 85 for his previous trainer. Drawn in stall nine tonight he will be dropped in and ridden for luck in-running.
