Starsoftheclock Saturday 3rd August 2024 Selections And Review

3rd August, 2024 @ 11:38am

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Cayman Tai (99) – A solid enough performance from the selection who travelled well into the race but just found one too good at the finish. I was expecting a better performance on the clock, but it was still a decent effort. Result 2nd 20/1, 18/1 adv…11/1 SP.

1pt e/way Ratafia (87) – A total flop from the selection who went backwards quickly after being asked to quicken two furlongs out. Perhaps this race came too soon after his eighty five day break.

Today’s Advice

Grateful (14f Gp2) – This improving three-year-old won well last time out over this distance at Fairyhouse recording the fastest time on the card on the day. On that occasion she raced prominently, travelling well, before taking up the running over two furlongs out, and found an extra gear in the finish when needed. She looks a shade overpriced for today’s (3.00) Goodwood providing she can build on this. The favourite Free Wind will be a tough nut to crack if back to her best following a seventy nine day absence, but I am happy to have a small interest on Jim Crowley’s mount at the prices on offer.

Dragon Of Malta & Imposing Supreme (7f Hcap) – With conditions on the soft side for today’s (4.50) Galway this seven-year-old should be capable of showing much better form than of late when he has been racing on faster surfaces. He is six pounds below his last winning handicap mark of 76 for today’s contest, and although well found by the market, all the right boxes look ticked for a return to the winner’s enclosure. The main danger looks to be Imposing Supreme who ran very well when finishing third behind Reidh over this course and distance four days ago. He has won in the past when returning quickly to the track, but that was after a seven day break. He looks one for a smaller straight win interest.

Sixpack (11f 180y Hcap) – The step back in trip for today’s (5.25) Galway could be just what the doctor ordered for this improving four-year-old. He has been improving every race on the clock lately, and he might have even more still to come. The application of the first time blinkers and wide draw in stall nineteen are a concern, but I am still happy to have a small play on Ben Coen’s mount. He does have a round action, and conditions were on the slow side when he won at Roscommon, so he should be fine under today’s conditions.
