Today’s Advice

ROGUE DIPLOMAT (7f Hcap) – This three-year-old looked impressive when winning a Class 5 Novice last time out over seven furlongs at Leicester by two and a quarter lengths. He raced prominently on that occasion, and recorded a (109) speed figure in the process, which sees him at the top of the speed chart for today’s contest. This was the joint-best performance on the clock at Leicester on the day, and his prolific trainer should be able to take advantage of his opening handicap mark.

Today’s (5.15) Newmarket does contain plenty of contestants who have yet to show their hand fully, but the selection sets a high enough standard for them to aim at. James Owen has been firing in the winners over the winter, and currently stands at fourty winners since the turn of the year. Today’s jockey Harry Davies has ridden the majority of those with five on the board so far, and he takes the ride again today having coasted home on the selection last time out.

The ground looks to be drying out today with very little rain around, and if there was one concern it would be a very firm surface as he did show a bit of a knee action the last day. Hopefully, the track will be well irrigated ahead of 2000 Guineas Day, and the son of Calyx looks one to be interested in given his current form.
