Starsoftheclock Saturday 4th October 2025 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

1pt win Sondad (107), 1pt win Brosay (104) – Ascot’s going description of Good to Soft looked well off what the winning times were saying as nine horses were pulled out on the day due to unsuitable ground. Approximately 4 millimetres of rain hit the track and that changed the advertised going to Soft after race 4. The times were indicating that the ground “rode” Soft right from race 1. Brosay would not have been a pick on Soft going as indicated in the preview. Sondad was a bit below his recent efforts on the clock and although having plenty of tip top form in the past, backing up 13 days later, this was not one of his very best.

0.5pt e/way Rift Valley – Non Runner

1pt e/way By The Lake – Non Runner

1pt win Bin Ajwad (108) – The selection made another step forward on the clock and took this race with plenty of promise. He likes a decent pace to aim at which is what he got here and he took up the running over a furlong from home before finishing a length and three quarters too good for Paladin. He is heading in the right direction now following his gelding operation. Result 1st 11/4, 5/2 adv…3/1f SP.

1pt win Backspin (100) – This horse fooled a lot of punters with his improved timefigures on the clock since the application of blinkers recently. The truth is he can be awkward from the stalls, give away early position and is a difficult horse to get to put his best effort on the track as he showed on this occasion. He will need to find a weak race to get his head in front.

Today’s Advice

NAINA (7f Hcap) – This John Ryan trained three-year-old filly ticks a lot of boxes for today’s (5.00) Newmarket as a past course and distance winner with cut in the ground. She only found Daring Legend too good last time out when trying to make all the running. She has also raced prominently in the past, so she doesn’t necessarily have to lead. It was a career best effort on the clock last time out and a repeat of that should see her go close. Christian Howarth takes the ride again and his experience on board should hold him in good stead.

1pt win Naina (7/2 General) 5.00 Newmarket
