1pt e/way Powerful Nation (109) – A similar performance on the clock to his previous win over course and distance. He travelled best again, but was taken off his line by the runner-up in the home straight. He had enough time to recover, and get back on top, but failed at the finish by a half length to a filly he beat well last time out. It will be interesting to see if he can continue going forward. Result 2nd 5/1 adv…3/1 SP.
One Evening (14f Gp1) – This John & Thady Gosden trained five-year-old has some decent form for today’s (4.00) Longchamp Qatar Prix de Royallieu for Fillies and Mares. Her form last autumn reads very well in regards to some of today’s opponents. Most notably her effort in the Listed Galtres Stakes at York over the extended eleven furlongs when trying to give eventual winner Sea Theme nine pounds, and just failing by a head. She recorded a (111) speed figure when once again giving best to the three-year-olds in Sumo Sam over the extended fourteen furlongs in the Park Hill at Doncaster. An easy winning finish to the year when taking the Listed Beckford Stakes by seven lengths from Vera Verto in October was a nice reward for her consistency last season. Following a satisfactory return to racing this season at Newmarket, she ran an excellent race behind Aventure in a slowly run race over the extended twelve furlongs at Deauville just going down by a neck having raced in midfield. The step back up in trip should suit and she has been given a kind draw in stall four for today’s race. The overall form of the yard this season has been a concern in the big races, but at the prices it may pay to give this mare a chance to show that she is still improving.
