Starsoftheclock Saturday 9th March 2024 Selections and Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way American In Paris (100) – A decent enough performance at the minimum trip from the selection who drifted out to 25/1 at the off. The run may have been need after 37 days off the track, and she looks ready to step back up in trip to six furlongs now. Result 3rd 11/1 adv…25/1 SP.

0.75pt e/way Warminster (99) – The gamble of the race from 12/1 overnight into 7/2 proved disappointing in just being collared on the line for fourth. He broke awkwardly, and despite racing prominently weakened near the finish. A step back up in trip looks needed, but one can see why he only has one win from twenty three starts.

0.75pt e/way Shoot To Kill (102) – A disappointing result for each way backers as the selection, who was backed from 8/1 overnight into 5/2, weakened inside the final furlong to just miss out on the places. It may well be that the race was needed after 61 days off, and he may well prove best suited to seven furlongs at a track like Dundalk going forward.

Today’s Advice

Doctor Khan Junior (7F 36Y Listed) – This five-year-old has recorded two top class efforts on the clock on his two most recent efforts, and may be worth chancing against the short priced favourite Shouldvebeenaring for today’s (2.40) Wolverhampton. A (120) speed figure on the 9th January when finishing a half a length ahead of Intervention from a wide draw at Southwell caught the eye of most clockwatchers. He showed great determination that day when headed over a furlong out before rallying to lead again inside the final furlong. Usually when horses put up these big figures it can be difficult to repeat them, but last time out over this course and distance Doctor Khan Junior looked even more impressive. A (117) speed figure was recorded that day, and once again he tried to make all the running but this time he quickened nicely clear at the two furlong pole before being eased down at the line to win by three lengths from Kingdom Come. He is now rated 99 by the handicapper, and has risen 37lbs in the handicap since last May while winning six races. His dam Ladies are Forever was a Group 3 winner for the yard, and it looks like there could be even more to come from this son of Muhaarar. Today, might be the day to catch him considering the current favourite is returning from a 160 day break, and may be better on Turf judging by his past efforts.
