Today’s Advice
ABERAMA GOLD (6f Hcap) – This eight-year-old returns to the scene of his 2023 Stewards Cup win in decent form having finished ahead of Righthere Rightnow in the Ayr Silver Cup last month. A solid third place finish in a decent time last time out at Nottingham under top weight indicates that he is well in himself at the moment, and Oisin Murphy is a solid booking for him in today’s (3.37) Goodwood.
Wheels Of Fire looks to pose his biggest danger having caught the eye recently at Salisbury when not getting the clearest of runs but I will be hoping the selection’s more prominent racing style and winning course form would tilt the balance in his favour.
CERULEAN BAY/PLANTADREAM (8f Hcap) – Trainer David O’Meara looks to have a great chance of another winner in this four-year-old who won nicely over course and distance last time out. He raced in behind the leader Epictetus that day before responding well to pressure to come home a length and a quarter to the good over Alpha Crucis.
The handicapper has raised him 5lbs for that effort for today’s (4.47) Goodwood, but a reproduction of that effort should see him go close with Oisin Murphy booked again having finished runner-up on him at York back in August.
Trainer Karen Jewell has had a few near misses with the second selection since acquiring him from John Best back in 2023. He goes well around here having finished runner-up behind Goodwinson back in August 2024. Lightly raced for his age he likes to have plenty of pace to aim at which he should get with Epictetus and Brighton Boy in the field. He looks a little overpriced considering his decent course form.
CALZAGHI (10f Hcap) – This five-year-old has been selected a few times without getting his head in front and he looks to have another solid chance in today’s (4.55) Naas having performed well on his belated seasonal debut at Down Royal last month. He kept on well from midfield on that occasion in a race that came out very strong on the clock. A couple of horses have come out of that race since and won including Ohmali and Ribee, while God Knows was just pipped at The Curragh eight days ago.
Today’s ten furlong trip should be perfect for him having won over this distance at Navan last season. Jessica O’Gorman takes the ride and she has shown that she can get the job done with wins aboard Areana, La Tulipe Noire and Omakase to mention a few this season.
