Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Dream On Kent (95) – Another step forward on the clock from the selection who looked to have the race in the bag having raced prominently but gave best to the winner by a length inside the final furlong. Result 2nd 3/1 adv…7/2 SP (Price moved at time of writing)
1pt e/way Advertised (96) – The selection looked to be coming with a challenge at the furlong pole before weakening into 11th place beaten 7 lengths. Gelded since disappointing last time out at Newmarket he showed a round action and might prefer a softer surface going forward. This was a long way from his best.
0.75pt e/way Man Of Vision (99) – It looked like connections were using this race as a stepping stone for another contest as the selection was given an easy time of it when push came to shove a furlong from home. The three-year-old also hung left and he looks one to be careful of on quick ground.
1pt win Vintage Clarets (106) – The selection raced from the rear following an awkward start and although making headway in the final furlong could not close down the winner who was showing his first serious form on ground with a decent amount of cut in it. Another solid effort from the seven-year-old who should be winning again soon enough.
Today’s Advice
HEADMASTER/CITY HOUSE (7f Hcap) – The former selection looked a very nice addition to the Eddie Lynam stable when bolting up over 6f at The Curragh last time out despite not getting the clearest of runs through. He looked to be travelling all over the opposition that day and having won over 7f in the past for his previous trainer should have no problem with the step up in trip for today’s (2.37) Cork. The handicapper could only raise him 5lb for winning by a neck but the manner of the victory left the impression that he could be much better than a handicapper. The latter selection also ran in the same contest. He also caught the eye that day when not getting the clearest of runs from the rear. He finished 3 lengths off the winner and even with a 5lb pull at the weights he might have to settle for second best if the Eddie Lynam trained inmate is in the same form today. He showed he was back on a favourable handicap mark the time before that at Chester over the extended 7f trip. He raced wide on that occasion before challenging the leaders on the outside in the final furlong before weakening into fourth place beaten 1.25 lengths by Supido. That was a very strong contest on the clock and the 7th, 9th and 10th place finishers (Partisan Hero, Bellarchi and Brighton Boy) have all won since. A winner in Bahrain back in January 2025 from a 3lb higher mark he should make his presence felt today.
ROUSHAM (7f Hcap) – The (3.30) Doncaster looks a weak contest and the selection won very cosily last time out over 7f at Doncaster. He raced keenly early on but once he settled down he made decent headway over a furlong from home before coming clear to win by a length without being put under maximum pressure. The handicapper has only put him up 3lb, and in a race with very little serious turf form held by the opposition, if he takes any type of step forward he looks the one they all have to beat.
COMMANDER OF LIFE (7f Hcap) – This five-year-old caught the eye in a Class 4 handicap at York when not getting the clearest of runs through before keeping on well to the line. He has been performing consistently lately and is now a pound below the mark he was beaten a short head by Bear Force One last August for today’s (4.40) Donaster. A previous course and distance winner, jockey Lewis Edmunds knows him well having won him before. Pace looks to come from Ziggy’s Condor, Shazani and Bella Bisbee and with better luck in-running he should go close to winning again.
