Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Kats Bob (99) – The field split into two groups and the selection looked like he was on the wrong side of the track as the first four home raced on the near side. Nevertheless, William Pyle’s mount failed to exit the stalls with his usual zest and had trouble leading Vince L’Amour (93). He hung left and weakened over a furlong from home and looked to have an off-day compared to his two most recent starts coming home in 14th place beaten 3.75 lengths.

Today’s Advice

SING THE BLUES (6f Lst) – The (4.45) Pontefract sees the Richard Hughes trained America Queen installed as the short priced favourite due to her finishing close up in Group races the past two seasons. Her best performance on the clock came at Newmarket over 6f last season when she finished just over 2 lengths behind True Love in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes recording a (108) timefigure. The step up to 7f failed to bear any fruit so far although she was just worried out of victory in this season’s Nell Gwyn Stakes by the Stuart Williams trained Azleet. The drop back to 6f in the Group 3 Summer Stakes at York resulted in a fourth place finish beaten 2 lengths by recent Goodwood winner Flora Of Bermuda. The third place finisher Soul Love gave the form a boost in the Yeomanstown Stud Listed Stakes at Naas last month. The form looks solid and she should appreciate the stiffer track today but she is priced short enough in the betting.

The selection may be rated 14lb lower than the favourite by the handicapper but she has been transformed since switching from William Haggas to Martin Dunne. She hadn’t shown much with her former trainer but benefitted from a pace meltdown set by Angel Shared at Newmarket when recording a Listed level (111) timefigure in a Class 3 handicap last July. The form has yet to be franked by the beaten horses since, but she showed that was no fluke when repeating the formula in a similar handicap at Goodwood despite meeting trouble in-running. She will need the likes of Miss Nightcap and Magic Basma to put it up to the favourite in the early exchanges, but with the form she is in it would be no surprise if she ran above her odds if they go too fast up front.
