Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Pixie Diva (105) – The selection looked to have this race in the bag when she took up the running over a furlong from home. Unfortunately, she threw the race away by hanging to the left and eventually came up a length short. Result 3rd 11/2, 5/1 adv…4/1f SP.
1pt e/way Woodstock (106) – A solid enough performance from the selection who raced prominently and kept on all the way to the line coming home in third place beaten 1.25 lengths. Result 3rd 11/2, 5/1 adv…6/1 SP.
1pt e/way Coyy – Non-Runner (Going Changed After Declaration)(Money Back)
Today’s Advice
HAPPY BOSS (7f Hcap) – This four-year-old has been improving recently on the clock most notably when looking unlucky behind Devas Twelve over course and distance back in March. He raced in touch of the leaders on that occasion and was denied a clear run over a furlong from home before keeping on well to the line just failing by a short head. A (108) timefigure was recorded and the race has seen the fourth placed horse Big Return win his next two races while the 11th and 12th placed horses Smart Fighter and Flying Knight have also won since. Last month saw the son of Toronado make amends over course and distance when getting the better of Top Time by a neck. Facing a difficult draw in stall 13 he was given a beauty of a ride by Luke Ferraris to bag the box seat after a furlong and kept on all the way to the line to record a (105) timefigure carrying 2lb more than the last day.
The handicapper has put him up 6lb and he does step up to Class 3 this morning but does enjoy carrying 9lb less today and his latest form gives him a decent chance with a kind draw in stall 3. The favourite Everyone’s Star recorded a weight adjusted (106) timefigure last time out from the same draw as this morning’s and I can let him win at the prices considering he has not put his head in front in over a year.
MARCELLINUS (6f Hcap) – This three-year-old put in a career best performance last time out at Bath over 5f 160y when coming home a comfortable 2 lengths clear of Red Snapper and recording a (105) timefigure. He travelled prominently that day on a Good to Soft surface before leading over two furlongs from home. The handicapper has put him up 7lb for today’s (4.15) Hamilton but it is worth noting that the third, fifth, eighth and eleventh placed horses have all won since. Pierre-Louis Jamin is back on board again today for trainer Tom Dascombe who has had 2 winners and a runner-up from his last four runners at the northern track.
A similar case could be made for what looks his main rival Red Spells Danger who took his maiden cosily nine days ago but with the strength of the opposition on the day limited to say the least I just sided with the son of Showcasing at the slightly bigger odds.
