Today’s Advice
Top Gun Tina (7f 14y Hcap) – This 3yo filly looks best in at the weights for today’s (3.14) Newcastle following a recent second place finish behind the Lucinda Russell trained Ledger last month. On that occasion, racing over a mile at today’s venue, she recorded a strong speed figure of (102) for today’s grade when racing off a handicap mark of just (52). The hold up performer made good headway over a furlong out from the rear, and only went down by a length at the line, having raced away from the favoured stands side rail. The handicapper has only raised her a pound for that effort. Interestingly, the David Thompson stable also saddles front runner Blame The Farrier in today’s race, and I will be hoping he provides a decent pace for the selection to aim at. Billy Loughnane has been booked for the ride, and he has hit a real purple patch lately having ridden 12 winners in the last two weeks.
Plink (8f 5y Hcap) – This lightly raced 3yo would appear to have a decent chance in today’s (3.45) Newcastle following a staying on fifth behind the Nigel Tinkler trained Bella Kopella over the extended 7 furlongs lto at today’s venue. That was his debut performance for trainer Katie Scott who recently acquired the horse for a mere 2,000gns from the William Haggas stable. On that occasion the hold up performer didn’t have the clearest of runs through, and I will be hoping for a decent pace from prominent racers Banner Road and Little Ted in today’s contest.
