Starsoftheclock Sunday 1st June 2025 Selections And Review

1st June, 2025 @ 10:16am

Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Arkinthestars (96) – The selection failed to find another gear when asked over a furlong out weakening into sixth place beaten just over 9 lengths. The winning times appeared slow, but the rail was out on the day. The ground was riding on the slow side of good (4 lengths per mile slower than standard). There also appeared to be a bit of a track bias to horses who challenged middle to outside.

2pts win Knight’s Gold (96) – I was expecting Telepathic to provide some pace in the contest, but unfortunately jockey Aidan Keeley did everything he could to avoid racing prominently. The selection was unsuited to how the race developed, and was stuck behind a wall of horses when the pace quickened. Prominent racing close to the rail was rewarded on the night which was the opposite of what Sean Bowen’s mount had.

Today’s Advice

PONNTOS (5f Gp3) – Short priced favourite for today’s (1.40) Chantilly, Kind Of Blue looks worth taking on considering he may have bigger targets further down the line than today’s contest. The selection won this race last year, and he ran a bit better than it may appear last time out considering his jockey Pat Cosgrave stayed down the unfavoured centre of the track at Longchamp. He still did very well in finishing third behind Mgheera and Ciao Pa’ (who had the best draw of the field in stall one).

Mikael Barzalona is back on board having won this race on him last year, and hopefully he can find a nice path for the front-running son of Power. He looks the right price for a sporting interest against the favourite.

CAMILLE PISSARO (10f 110y Gp1) – The (3.05) Longchamp Qatar Prix Du Jockey Club sees a host of rivals reoppose from last month’s French 2000 Guineas. A list of excuses could be made for plenty of those in behind the winner but the one who appears to have the least amount of excuses is the selection. On reviewing the race he looked to me to be the one finishing best, and plenty of the others looked to need softer going or were not finishing out their race as well as Ryan Moore’s mount.

He is priced as he should be, and will need Ryan Moore’s expertise to navigate a positive trip from stall one, but if you want somebody to do it for you might as well have one of the best (if not the best) in the world at the moment doing it.

ELEGANT ERIN (5f 8y Hcap) – The wind has been playing a part in plenty of races recently, and with a 15mph westerly wind facing the contestants for today’s (4.00) Nottingham it may pay to be on the side of those held up. The selection fits that bill nicely, has course form and is in fine fettle at the moment having finished runner-up the last twice.

Favourite Angel Shared will look to make all the running, and with prominent racers such as Nightbird, Jacquelina, Smooth Silesie and Grace Angel in opposition the race might just set up nicely for David Nolan’s mount.
