Yesterday’s Review

1.5pts e/way Prosperitas (78) – The winner King’s School (108) built on his recent performance behind Viper at Ayr, but the favourite was very disappointing in only managing 9th place beaten just under 27 lengths. A repeat of his (107) timefigure in this race last year would only have seen him challenging for a place this year, but it looks like he “bounced” following his effort after a 140 day break at Kempton. He was wearing first time cheekpieces in last year’s race and has not matched that level since in four races.

Today’s Advice

ELEGANZ (14f Gp3) – With the ground described as Soft, (Good to Soft on our scale in the UK) with light rain forecast a liking for a bit of cut should help for today’s (3.25) Saint Cloud. The selection should appreciate the drop in class having performed with credit when finishing in 5th place beaten just over 5 lengths in the Group 1 Prix De Royallieu over 14f at Longchamp on Arc weekend when the going was a bit more lively than ideal. Today’s combination of a softer surface and the drop in class should see her much more competitive. She finished runner-up in a Listed race on soft going over 14f at Longchamp following a summer break back in September and the (117) timefigure for that race was well above par. Two of today’s rivals in Mahiya and Frances Ethel were in behind on that occasion and we will be hoping she can confirm that form as she is much more lightly raced. Oisin Murphy takes the ride once again having been on board last time, and with the short priced favourite Brilliant Star having her first run outside the UK and still to prove herself on a soft surface, the selection looks a bit of value at the prices on offer today.
