Yesterday’s Review
0.5pt e/way Grateful (101) – A slowly run race where the first four horses after a mile finished in the first four. Prominent racing has been rewarded most of the week at Goodwood, but jockey Jim Crowley restrained the filly to second last early on. She ran easily the fastest six furlongs of the entire field in 1.12.41 compared to the winner’s 1.12.56, and her sectional times from five furlongs out to the second last furlong read fastest-fastest-second fastest (by 0.01)-third fastest. The best filly in the race who was compromised by position and pace.
1pt win Dragon Of Malta (87) – The selection was outspeeded from the gates, and stuck three wide the whole way round, before being squeezed up and dropping away at the business end of the race. He may be worth another chance on his favoured soft surface with a better trip on his favoured soft surface going forward.
0.75pt win Imposing Supreme (105) – Gavin Ryan’s mount reproduced his excellent effort from four days ago at the track having tracked the leader before taking up the running inside the final furlong and coming home three quarters of a length to the good. A sixth career win, with four of them coming round here, he has been a great horse for connections. Result 1st 5/1 adv…Rule 4 4/1F SP.
0.75pt e/way Sixpack (99) – A solid enough effort from the selection who raced wide for a lot of the contest while the first and second home saved energy on the rail. He took up the running two furlongs out, but was headed at the furlong pole before coming home in third place. It will be interesting to see if he can build on this with a better trip going forward. Result 3rd 6/1 adv…7/1 SP.
