Starsoftheclock Sunday 8th June 2025 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Pride Of Arras (79) – The selection pulled hard early in the race from his wide draw and had no response when asked to quicken down the hill. He failed to handle the track and the occasion, despite being put forward as “having a great mind and being a relaxed type” by jockey Rossa Ryan in a Racingtv interview a few days before the race. It was noted that he wore a hood to post and earplugs pre-race, which does not sound like the type of horse being talked about beforehand. He came home in seventeenth position beaten over 50.5 lengths.

1pt e/way Midak (102) – The ground for the second day of the Epsom Derby meeting deteriorated throughout the day from the first race to the big race. Conditions were 14 lengths per mile slow for the main event and the selection was unsuited by the slow conditions. He travelled well in the race and found a nice position in behind the winner but failed to respond when asked to quicken over two furlongs from home. It will be interesting to see if connections can find decent ground for him going forward. He finished in tenth position beaten 16.5 lengths.

Today’s Advice

PARENT’S LOVE (5f Hcap) – The (1.10) Sha Tin sees the return of the Jamie Richards trained La Forza following a 70 day break. His racing weight looks right and with Zac Purton on board he looks a worthy 11/10 favourite. The selection looks a little overpriced to me considering he looks the lone pace angle in today’s contest, and won last time he was seen over this course and distance from the worst of the draw in stall one. From a better draw in stall eight he should find conditions a bit easier for himself.

He put in a decent shift last time out in this class when just weakening into fourth at the finish over the 5f at Happy Valley while recording a decent time. The third placed Stellar Express won next time out giving the form a healthy look.

MODULECONSTRUCTION (6f Hcap) – Little Paradise looks a well-found short priced favourite by the market having won from a wide draw last time out over course and distance in a Class 4. He steps up in class for today’s (1.45) Sha Tin, and I prefer the chances of the selection who has won his last two Class 3 contests from wide draws, and should appreciate the better draw in stall three today.

He looks in the form of his life at the minute and recorded a strong time last time out when seeing off Majestic Express by a half length. Jockey Leyton Hewitson has been on board for his latest two wins and hopefully the combination can put in a solid effort today.
