Starsoftheclock Thursday 12th March 2026 Selections And Review

12th March, 2026 @ 9:41am

Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Lucky McQueen (106) – Another step forward on the clock from the selection who put in a career best performance from his wide draw. He raced in touch of the leaders three wide and made headway two furlongs from home before getting up to win by a half length at the finish. There should be another win or two from him in this mood. Result 1st 5/1 adv…49/10 SP.

Today’s Advice

CLANSMAN (12f 98y Hcap) – The (5.08) Newcastle looks a race to get involved with consdering those at the front of the market have yet to break the clock in any significant way. The short priced favourite and joint topweight Jodhpur Blue has yet to win over today’s distance and is 1-18 over his career. The second favourite Golspie will be attempting to win for the first time over today’s trip. The selection looks to have a lot in his favour as an outsider. He has won on the turf over distances ranging from 10f-14f and is now rated 8lbs below his last winning handicap mark. He is searching for his first all-weather win but he has gone close on a couple of occasions.

A third place finish behind King Chaos on seasonal debut reads well considering the runner up Cardinal Point has come out and won since. On that occasion he raced prominently and just weakened out of contention inside the final furlong having led over two furlongs from home. A fine performance considering he hadn’t been seen in public for 208 days. Last time out he found the likeable winner Tarbat Ness too good over two miles having led till over two furlongs from home. Today’s pilot Billy Garritty has won on him three times before and his prominent racing style might just be suited by today’s conditions with a 15mph wind coming slighly from behind the runners in the straight. I would have had him a slightly shorter price than he is currently available at.

BEALE STREET (6f Hcap) – The (6.45) Newcastle looks a competitive enough event with eleven runners currently going to post. The piece of form that stands out to me on the clock is the race won by Grant Wood over two weeks ago over course and distance. The selection will be the first horse to return to the track having raced in that contest and was just beaten a head by the winner having raced in touch of the leaders under jockey Paul Mulrennan who is back on board today. I awarded him a (111) timefigure for that performance which would put him at the top of the timefigure table today.

Pace for today’s contest looks to lie with Fortamour and Fan Mail (if he repeats his latest tactics) and as the selection can sometimes race among the backmarkers the quicker these two go up front the better for his chances. The handicapper has only raised him a pound for his latest effort and he is currently rated 1lb below the mark he raced off when finishing third to Ziggy’s Condor at Southwell last February so he should be very competitive from today’s mark.
