Yesterday’s Review
1pt win Surpass And Shine (98) – It looked like the selection had done everything right by making most of the running before wandering about in front inside the final furlong and getting collared in the final strides by the winner. It looked a handy opportunity for him having been backed from 7/2 into 15/8 favourite. His ability to put his head down and battle leaves a bit to be desired.
Today’s Advice
Dear Cat (6f 111y Nursery) – This Warren Greatrex trained two-year-old filly tops my speed ratings for today’s (1.50) Doncaster with a (104) figure from Salisbury over the extended six furlongs when making all to come home by over two lengths. She likes to race prominently and with other front runners in opposition we will be hoping that her jockey Edward Greatrex can find a nice position for her close to the pace.
Grateful (14f 115y Gp2) – Ryan Moore takes the ride for the first time on this improving three-year-old filly for today’s (3.35) Doncaster and we will be hoping for a better position in her run than she had at Goodwood last time out. On that occasion she was ridden too far back off a pace that suited the front runners. She recorded the fastest furlongs in that race when the pace quickened but the leaders were already better positioned than her, so we know she has the ability to get the job done at this level.
T’challa (10f 43y Hcap) – This improving three-year-old put up the performance of the card on the clock last time out at Newbury recording a time that was six lengths per mile faster than par. He made all the running that day, but can also race just off the pace as he did when winning at Windsor. Jockey Oisin Murphy will have to ensure that he doesn’t get involved in a pace duel with the other front-runner Grey Cuban in today’s (4.10) Donacster. Providing he reserves enough energy for the finish, our selection should be able to show that he is ahead of his current handicap rating.
Secret Daay/Sydney Bay (6f Hcap) – The former of our selections returns to the course and distance where he has put up his best performances this winter for tonight’s (6.00) Newcastle. He has been racing over the extended seven furlongs since and not getting home. He looks worth a speculative interest that he may just outperform his current odds with the drop back in trip likely to suit. The latter looks a difficult one to catch right but most of his best form is over this course and distance. On the chance that Variety Island, Secret Daay and Missmimi set a decent pace, he looks worth a small play to come through and pick up the pieces.
