Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Happy Trio – The selection sustained an injury to it’s left front leg after 300 metres of the race, and was pulled up immediately. Hopefully, nothing too serious occurred.

0.75pt e/way Kaholo Angel (105) – A fine ride by Ellis Wong who took up a beautiful position in behind the duelling leaders from his low draw. The gap opened up lovely for him down on the inside entering the straight, and he swept through to lead at the furlong point. He had to show toughness at the finish to hold off plenty of late challenges coming home a head in front. Result 1st 9/2 adv…37/10 SP.

Today’s Advice

CHARLIE MASON (6f 16y Hcap) – This consistent four-year-old has been a credit to the Tony Carroll stable this season, and always puts in a solid effort. He had been racing over seven furlongs and a mile a few months ago, but has switched back to sprinting with recent success. Two wins at Wolverhampton and Leicester over today’s trip have shown his versatilty, and I am willing to allow him his recent effort over the minimum trip at Chelmsford when he found things happening too quickly.

Jack Doughty takes a valuable three pounds off his back, and he has been in tremendous form for the All-Weather Championship winning stable with eight wins on the board last month. He does have a tricky draw in stall ten to overcome, so we will be hoping Jack can find a nice position for him when the pace settles down. The handicapper has raised him just two pounds for his recent win at Leicester, and Jack’s claim leaves him with a nice competitive weight.

Today’s (5.20) Southwell doesn’t look the deepest of contests with plenty of the opposition finding it difficult to put their head in front. He looks the right price for a sporting interest.
