Nothing solid enough at the right price on the All-Weather today for me.

Next All-Weather action looks to be at Kempton next week.

Thoughts On Today’s Turf Action

Gilded Water was mightily impressive when coming home over seven lengths clear in a maiden race at Chepstow over ten furlongs last time out. The King’s three year old gelding recorded a decent (107) speed figure that day, but the video was more eye-catching with how easily he went through the gears. The step up to twelve furlongs today should be right up his street with his dam Fiery Sunset having won over twelve furlongs at Lingfield in 2014. A kind draw in stall six has been secured for todays (3.05) Ascot, and an opening handicap mark of 92 looks more than reasonable.

Zahee has dropped steadily down the handicap on Turf since starting last season off a mark of 77. There were signs, however at Dundalk this winter season that he can make his presence felt back on Turf in 2024. A three and a half length victory over the mile in March showed that he is more than capable even at nine years of age. A recent pleasing comeback at Limerick, when not getting the clearest of runs off a slow pace, should set him up nicely today’s (5.45) Leopardstown. As a hold up horse he will always need luck in running, and we will be hoping that the likes of Rampage or Blackcastle Storm can apply some pressure to likely front-runner Ferrybank.

Column favourite Shining Aitch looks worth a sporting interest for tonight’s (6.50) Leopardstown. The selection surprised me when winning over the mile at Dundalk in April following the addition of a first-time visor. Ten furlongs has always appeared to be his best trip, and although only managing sixth place at Navan last time out, that race may well have been needed following a fifty six day break. Current favourite Mayo For Sam was impressive that day, but has been well found by the market. There appears to be pace on for tonight’s contest with Cleopatra’s Needle and Jazz Forever the likely front-runners, which should suit the selection’s hold-up style of running.
