BOYFRIEND (8f Hcap) – The (5.24) Salisbury is the type of quality race most punters would love to see more regularly in UK racing but as we know the day to day offerings are below par to say the least. Nevertheless, the selection has shown some rock solid form lately and only went down by a neck last time out over 9f at Glorious Goodwood attempting to give 4lb to a well handicapped rival in Crest Of Fire. The form was boosted recently by the third place finisher Blue Courvoisier winning a nice handicap at York.
Previously he had finished third beaten 1.75 lengths over 10f at Sandown behind the John & Thady Gosden trained Dangerman. He came to have every chance over that longer distance but had no extra to give near the finish. The form of that race has also been boosted with the fourth Galyx winning at Beverley on Sunday and the fifth Al Aali winning two nice handicaps at Newmarket and Goodwood. The drop back to the uphill mile at Salisbury should be just right as he won over this distance at Sandown with four future winners in behind in Raammee, Saytarr, Hickory and Dark Tornado.
Favourite Shipbourne is on a recovery mission having got restless in the stalls at Newmarket last time out. Point Of Contact looks a more lively contender having put up some decent figures on the clock recently. Connections have reached for first time cheekpieces following a solid fourth place finish at Hamilton but at the prices I am happy to side with the selection.
