Yesterday’s Review
0.5pt e/way Basholo (102) – The selection maintained her recent consistency, and went two places better than her latest efforts. She raced prominently with Lewis Barnes (101) and was always doing enough to hold off that rival in the closing stages. It will be interesting to see if she can repeat this performance next time. Result 1st 11/1 adv…10/1 SP.
0.75pt e/way One Night Stand (106) – The selection was backed from 6/1 into 11/4 favourite as most punters saw that a repeat of his course and distance win from November would make him hard to beat. Things appeared to be going to plan as he tracked the leader King Of Stars, however he hung towards his right when push came to shove and couldn’t find another gear in the home straight. The winning time was the best on the card, but this will go down as a disappointing effort from the selection.
Today’s Advice
Wilde And Dandy (7f 14y Hcap) – This Ivan Furtado trained four-year-old did us a favour back in October at Chelmsford, and he put up another solid effort over course and distance last time out behind Crown’s Lady. He came home nicely from a midfield position that day, recording a (102) speed figure, and only going down by a length and a half. The handicapper has left him on the same handicap mark for tonight’s (8.00) Southwell, and he still looks nicely treated considering he was only beaten a nose from a two pound higher mark last December at Chelmsford. Jockey Joey Haynes is back on board having won him recently at Chelmsford. A decent draw in stall four should help matters, and everything looks in place for another solid showing.
El Hibri (6f 16y Hcap) – The Iain Jardine trained Kats Bob looks to hold a strong favourite’s chance for tonight’s (8.30) Southwell, as he appears to have been revitalised by the recent application of a visor. Readers of this column will know that I am always happy to let these short priced favourites win without my hard earned on them, and I was interested in this Ian Williams trained five-year-old who has won his last two races over this course and distance. He has been flying under the radar since winning over six furlongs at Chelmsford back in May, and it looked like he was just having a sighter last time out over the minimum trip at this course. In the hope that he can return to his best with the re-application of the cheekpieces, I was happy to have a sporting interest on Charles Bishop’s mount at a double figure price. He can race prominently, so a kind draw in stall three should help his cause. Others that look dangerous at decent prices include Crocodile Power and Masterclass.
