Today’s Advice

Blackstone Cliff (10f 150y Hcap) – This eight-year-old should appreciate the drop back in trip for today’s (1.40) Dundalk having had to make most of his own running over 12f last time out. He is drawn widest of all, and is 4lbs wrong at the weights today, but still merits a small interest in a weakish race. Apprentice James Ryan’s 5lb claim will be of benefit, and hopefully he can get across to track expected leader Curzon Queen.

Budding (8f 142y Mdn5) – This improving three-year-old looks worth chancing that she will handle the Tapeta for today’s (2.30) Wolverhampton following two fine efforts at Kempton. She should appreciate the extra distance today, having stayed on well last time out, and she has improved her figures on the clock from her debut to her second start. Harry Davies takes over the ride, and hopefully he can get his first winner for the Hughie Morrison stable.

Khathak (8f 5y) – This ex-Godolphin five-year-old has his own ideas about the game at the business end of races, but looks worth a small play for today’s (5.00) Newcastle. Once rated 84 by the handicapper he has now dropped 13lbs in the ratings, but has found a bit of form on the all-weather since connections have applied the tongue tie and visor. A return to today’s C&D, over which he was just beaten a head last month, should see him in the mix in a warm race. HIs most recent effort over the extended 7f at Southwell produced a decent (105) speed figure over a trip that would have been on the short side. Hopefully he can get even closer today, and may consent to put his best foot forward on a track that suits.
