Today’s Advice
WOODSTOCK (7F Hcap) – This six-year-old is due a trip to the winner’s enclosure as he is still rated 1lb below the handicap mark he raced off when beaten a head by Mark’s Choice over 6f at Ripon last August. We possibly didn’t see the best of him last time out at Beverley as he is more suited to racing left-handed and the race may have come a bit soon for him just 11 days after an excellent course and distance third place finish behind Brighton Boy. Jockey Joanna Mason is on board once again and he looks worth an interest with a lot of the boxes ticked for today’s (4.02) Thirsk.
STATEIRA (8f Fillies Hcap)(Kensington Palace Stakes – Wednesday Royal Ascot) – This improving four-year-old filly caught the eye in the Lanwades Stud Stakes Group 2 at The Curragh last month over the mile when not getting much of a clear run through at the business end of the race when finishing an excellent third place behind the Paddy Twomey trained City Of Memphis. She race keenly in touch that day and showed that the massive improvement that she has made on the all-weather at Newcastle has been transferred to the turf. The handicapper has put her up just 3lb and luckily enough she sneaks into this (0-105) handicap as the top-weight. Trainer Andrew Balding is in flying form at the moment with 12 winners from his last 51 runners at the time of writing, and the recent Wathnan purchase will have top jockey James Doyle booked to ride for tomorrow’s (5.35) Ascot.
