Today’s Advice

Pockley (5f Hcap) – This six-year-old has dropped right down the handicap ratings since performing well this spring from a twenty nine pound higher mark at this venue. He finished fifth last time out (over course and distance) whilst racing from the rear in a race where the first four home raced prominently. He showed enough that day to believe that he can win again soon, as he was only beaten a length and three quarters. The handicapper has even dropped him another pound since. We will be hoping for a solid pace from prominent racers Oriental Prince and Recon Mission for today’s (3.55) Newcastle. Cam Hardie has placed on the horse in the past, and a kinder draw in stall eight should enable a smoother trip than last time.

Dark Kestrel (5f Hcap) – The short priced favourite for tonight’s (6.00) Newcastle El Bufalo went close last time out at Chelmsford just going down by three quarters of a length to Thankuappreciate. The selection finished back in fourth place that day, and was noted running on well from a wide draw just beaten one and three quarter lengths. As a course and distance winner today’s venue should suit the selection better, and with the likes of The Ridler and Paddy’s Day in opposition might just have the race run to suit. He looks the right price for a sporting interest.

Too Much (6f Hcap) – Plenty of contestants for tonight’s (6.30) Newcastle have course and distance form already on their record. The selection’s win over Sergeant Mayer back in October looks one of the better performances at the weights, and she has shown solid consistency since in her latest three efforts having not finished out of the first four. The favourite Beale Street has been well found by the market having looked unlucky last time out behind Pals Battalion, but at the prices preference is for the David Thompson trained four-year-old. The step up from the minimum trip should see her in a better light, and Aiden Brookes takes a valuable three pounds off her back again. The quick turnaround since last seen looks the main concern, but I am happy to give her the chance to show that she can overcome that. As a hold-up performer we will be hoping for a decent pace from Blackjack and Tickets to bring her into the race.
