Yesterday’s Review

0.5pt e/way Evening Story (104) – Another nice step forward on the clock from Daniel and Claire Kubler’s likeable filly who has shown improved form under new hold up tactics. A decent pace was set by Pure Gold, and the selection was always travelling well under Rossa Ryan at the rear. As the pace quickened in the home straight she only had to be switched to the outside to make up her ground quickly on the leaders, before going clear inside the 2 furlong marker. A strong performance from a yard that is doing very well with it’s horses lately. Result 1st 9/1..17/2 adv…9/1 SP

Today’s Advice

Rogerwaswrong (7f Nursery) – This 2yo gelding showed improved form lto on Heavy ground at Bellewstown from 4lb out of the handicap, and races off his correct mark in today’s (1.55) Gowran Park. With today’s ground advertised as Heavy it will be interesting to see if this form can be reproduced. The application of the first time tongue tie and the shorter distance on a more undulating track result in a more reduced stake. He recorded a (95) speed rating at Bellewstown for me, which puts him at the top of my ratings.

Darkened (8f 75y Hcap) – Shane Ryder’s 7yo gelding is listed as second reserve for todays (4.15) Gowran Park, and it remains to be seen if he will get in. If two runners drop out, he is nicely handicapped from a mark of (60) having been beaten just a nose at Dundalk last Friday in a slowly run race over the extended 10f. He has been slowly sneaking back into form in August, and recorded a (103) when seventh behind Great Blasket on Yielding ground at Killarney over the extended mile. This particular race was run 6 lengths faster than Par, and has already seen 9 race wins since from the horses involved. With two career wins on Soft and Soft to Heavy conditions should hold no fears for him.

Golden Ash (9f 100y Maiden) – This Jim Bolger trained filly was given a sympathetic ride when returning from a 427 day break last month over 10f at The Curragh to record a (99) speed rating when finishing just 4 1/2 lengths behind one of today’s market leaders Feathertop (102). While conditions were only Yielding to Soft that day as opposed to Heavy today, there is enough difference in the price between the two for today’s (4.50) Gowran Park to warrant a sporting interest. Rory Cleary takes over the ride, and it will be interesting to see if she can close the gap to Mrs Harrington’s filly.
