Today’s Advice

GOLDEN HAVANA/VENTURA EXPRESS (5f Hcap) – The (7.30) Newcastle looks an interesting contest with plenty of contestants that like to go forward early doors. Brazen Idol, Beaumadier, and Lucius Aurelius have all led recently and a decent pace should bring both selections into contention. The former selection had been trading as the complete outsider of the field despite being a relatively lightly raced three-year-old who recorded a career best (103) timefigure last time out over course and distance. The Katie Scott trained Cotai Starlight made all the running on that occasion and put up the strongest time performance on the card. The former selection was rousted along at halfway and responded well to pressure to come home in sixth place beaten 3.75 lengths. The form received a boost last week with the third placed finisher Sergeant Mayer coming out and winning a class 5 contest at Redcar. The handicapper has dropped the selection two pounds since and the faster they go up front the better for the former course and distance winner.

The latter selection is a nine-year-old who has dropped down the weights since last seen over tonight’s course and distance back in March when finishing a neck behind the Mick Appleby trained Juan Les Pins. The Paul Midgley trained runner finds himself 9lb below his handicap mark from that evening and while he has yet to win in seven races on the turf since, I am hoping that the return to the all-weather might see a stronger performance. His trainer has had 3 winners this month and struck with Emerald Harmony at tonight’s venue last Friday. Another hold-up performer we will be hoping the pace is solid for tonight’s contest.
