0.75pt e/way North View (95) – The re-application of blinkers made no difference to the selection who was a long way off his form from last season. The winner Metaverse (104) settled better than last time out, and took advantage of his current handicap mark.
Today’s Advice
SOMETING SPLENDID (10f 23y Hcap) – This Peter Chapple-Hyam trained three-year-old went into plenty of notebooks last time out over the extended mile at Nottingham when not getting a clear run at the business end of a race won by Arcturus Flame. It was his first decent effort on the clock, and it will be interesting to see what he can achieve with better luck in running in today’s (3.33) Yarmouth. That was his stable debut, and Neil Callan takes over from Callum Hutchinson for today’s contest. He was held up in rear on that occasion, and will be hoping for a decent pace to aim at from prominent racers Babylon and Georginio. The step up in trip looks well within his compass based on breeding. As with all three-year-old races at this time of the season it is advised to proceed with caution as large improvements in form can be commonplace, and it should be noted that Sir Mark Prescott has one such horse in Requiem.
THE FEMININE URGE (6f Hcap) – This three-year-old filly was an eyecatcher last time out at Catterick when finishing well behind Barmyblade over five furlongs. On that occasion she was hampered at the start, and raced in rear before making nice headway over a furlong out. The step up in trip for today’s (4.38) Yarmouth should suit her, as she has won over six furlongs at Catterick in the past. The handicapper has left her unchanged in the ratings from her latest effort. It may well be that she is simply a Catterick specialist, and Catterick form should stay at Catterick, but on a quiet enough day I am willing to have a small interest on her. There are plenty of dangers at the head of the market including the William Haggas trained Maelstrom who is having his seasonal debut, and the Archie Watson trained filly Blue Empress who will be looking to transfer her recent solid all-weather form onto the turf.
