Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Canon Law (97) – The selection missed the break and was given a clever ride from jockey Reese Holohan who gradually took up the running after 7 furlongs in a slowly run affair. He wound things up from the front with a few furlongs to go and eventually proved 3.25 lengths too strong for the opposition. An excellent ride from one of the bright talents in the sport. Result 1st 17/2, 8/1 adv..13/2 SP.

0.75pt e/way Rappell (99) – The selection was backed into 4/1 joint favourite and raced prominently around the inside and had every chance in the home straight. Unfortunately, his attitude leaves a bit to be desired and he did well to cling on for fourth place beaten 5 lengths. Result 4th 17/2 adv…4\1Jf SP (Rule 4 10p)

0.75pt e/way Louiescall (98) – The selection was well backed from 11/1 into 7/2 and raced prominently. However, his young pilot made an error by allowing the favourite to dictate a slow pace and was eventually found three a quarters of a length too strong at the line. Connections would have been better suited to make the running and stretch out the unproven stamina of the winner. Result 2nd 11/1 adv…7/2 SP.

0.75pt e/way Hugo’s Girl (103) – Rory Mulligan’s mount raced in touch and was denied a clear run for much of the home straight when trying to make his way through. He eventully found clear air when the winners had flown and kept on well to hit the frame in fourth place beaten just 3 lengths. Better can be seen of her going forward. Result 4th 11/1, 10/1 adv….8/1 SP.

Today’s Advice

SUPREME CLARETS (7f 75y Hcap) – The (4.25) Beverley rematch between Misunderstood and the selection looks an interesting one as backers of the former will feel they were unlucky when the pair clashed over course and distance previously. The David O’Meara trained four-year-old has been well backed into a short price favourite this morning and went even closer seven days later when going down by a nose to Andesite over 7f at Thirsk.

The value now looks to lie with the selection who looks a more solid contestant than the favourite considering that one races keenly and needs others to do the work for him as his pilot tries to relax him off the pace. The selection has really improved this summer on better ground and recorded a career best (111) timefigure over 7f at Ayr when winning cosily by a length and three quarters from Runningsonofagun. Last time out he raced prominently and went and won his race when asked on ground that probably wouldn’t have been his favoured ground. Back on better ground today and with Warren Fentiman offsetting the 3lb rise in the weights by the handicapper he looks one to keep on the right side of.
