GIANT BALLON (6f Hcap) – The (12.10) Happy Valley looks an interesting contest with Winning Money the likely front-runner from his wide draw in stall nine. He is due to break his duck soon but from his today’s draw and at the short price on offer I was happy to look for an alternative. The formline that interested me was the Genius Baby race over course and distance from twenty days ago. Victor The Rapid and the selection both tried to close from the rear with the former snatching the bronze medal in the finish. With a wider draw in stall ten to overcome I was interested in giving the lightly raced son of Mehmas a chance to show he can build on his latest effort.
The switch to tongue tie and cheekpieces saw the three-year-old finish faster than Victor The Rapid in the final two furlongs and a reproduction of that effort makes him worth an interest at a double figure price. Lyle Hewitson takes the mount once again and the Doug Whyte stable are due a winner this month having finished runner-up on five occasions so far.
SONIC PURSUIT (6F Hcap) – This lightly raced four-year-old has put up two career best performances on the clock the last twice when recording (106) timefigures. The handicapper has left him alone for today’s (12.40) Happy Valley from his lowly handicap mark of 44, and his latest effort deserves an upgrade considering he had to use up a bit of petrol early on from his wide draw in stall twelve. He was still only beaten three quarters of a length at the line, and a reproduction of that effort should see him go close.
He usually breaks well and can maintain a prominent position from his kinder draw in stall six today. Andrea Atzeni takes the ride once again and he looks a solid enough alternative at the prices to the front two of Know At Heart and Califiornia Blitz.
