1pt win Busby (101) – The selection missed the break at the start, and had to race from further back than usual. In the end it made no difference, as the trainer had found a weak race for him. He made good headway from over a furlong out before taking up the running inside the final furlong to come home two and a half lengths clear. There should be another Class 6 win for him soon enough. Result 1st 5/2, 9/4 adv…13/8F SP.
Today’s Advice
PORFIN (6f 20y Hcap) – This seven-year-old had been in great form before disappointing last time out over course and distance. On that occasion he was having his third race in ten days, and was wearing a first-time visor when weakening into seventh place behind Just Ten High. I am willing to put a line through that effort in the hope that he can return to himself following a three weak break. His most recent form has been over seven furlongs, but he has winning form over today’s distance in the past. A decent draw in stall six should see him in a nice position, and regular partner Grace McEntee is on board for tonight’s (7.00) Wolverhampton. He looks a little forgotten in the market, and looks worth a small interest at the prices on offer.
PESSOA (8f 142y Hcap) – This hold-up performer hasn’t had the right set-up lately since finishing runner-up behind Kitaro Kich over course and distance last month. He has performed with credit, nevertheless, finishing fourth last time out, and should enjoy a more solid pace to aim at in tonight’s (7.30) Wolverhampton. With prominent racers like Carey Street, Light Up Our Stars, and Inexplicable in tonight’s contest there should be more pace on than has been in his recent races. Connections reach for first-time cheekpieces, and providing they don’t have affect him negatively, he should be able to make his presence felt. His main dangers would appear to be Charlatan, and Just Typical who have been well found by the market.
UPEPO (12f 51y Hcap) – When this horse won cosily at Lingfield last December, when everything went wrong for him during the race, I made a note to keep him onside from his lowly handicap mark. Conditions haven’t been ideal for selection for his last two races, but tonight’s (8.00) Wolverhampton looks to represent a more suitable race. He finds himself just three pounds higher than that victory, and while his best form has been on polytrack, he does have a solid third place effort behind Sax Appeal last February (from a two pound higher mark) over course and distance. Prominent racers Emaculate Soldier, Miss Paloma and Chase The Dollar should ensure a decent pace for tonight’s contest. Regular pilot Jack Doughty is on board, and he takes a handy three pounds off his back.
