Starsoftheclock Tuesday 30th July 2024 Selections And Review

Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Secret Road (99) – A disappointing performance from the selection who found very little when put under pressure in the home straight. The track was riding just over eight lengths per mile slow, as it was the first meeting back since the 29th April. However, I wouldn’t use the slower surface as an excuse as he has form on a slower surface notably his win at Newcastle last November.

Today’s Advice

Lord Warburton (9f 207y Amateur Hcap) – This Mike Sowersby trained seven-year-old caused a major shock when winning at Pontefract last month at the eye-watering odds of 125/1. He recorded a speed figure of (100) that day carrying just eight stone four pounds, and showed that was no fluke when recording the same figure last time out at this course carrying ten pounds more over the extended twelve furlongs. He didn’t get the clearest of runs on that occasion, and looked like the drop back in distance should see him in a better light for today’s (2.10) Beverley. Serena Brotherton, one of the more experienced amateur’s is on board today, and she has been riding well lately with a win on Lord Melbourne at York. Luck in running will be needed from stall eleven, and the well found market favourite Evelyn’s Phoenix should give her something to aim at from the front. He looks the right price for a sporting interest.

Jamih (12f 23y Hcap) – The key piece of form for today’s (3.55) Beverley looks to be the rematch between the selection, Dr Rio and Three Platoon from eight days ago. On that occasion the Tina Jackson trained nine-year-old came out on top, and I fancy him to do the same again today. I have always had doubts about Dr Rio’s resolution at the business end of races (as his record states too), and there is a question as to whether Three Platoon can reproduce that effort with blinkers applied for the second time. Joanna Mason has won on him before, and a reproduction of his latest effort should see him go very close.

Imperial Express (8f Hcap) – This three-year-old filly looked nicely progressive last time out when making all at Ffos Las when recoding a competitive looking (104) speed figure (with regards to today’s opposition) while carrying nine stone eight pounds. On that occasion she was also eased down inside the final furlong, as she had matters well in hand. Conditions are obviously much different for today’s (5.20) Goodwood, but it looks like the market may have slightly underestimated her chance. Oisin Murphy takes the ride again, and with not much pace on paper in today’s contest she might be able to get an uncontested lead again out in front. She looks the right price for a speculative interest to do just that today.

Idyllic (10f Hcap) – This Charlie Fellowes trained filly took a decent step forward on the clock last time out when this column selected her, and her trainer looks to have found her a weak enough race for tonight’s (6.55) Lingfield. Back over the same course and distance, she looks worth a sporting interest to take on the short priced favourite Con Te Partiro who should give her something to aim at.
