Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Bear Rock (90) – A slowly run race which saw the winner Grabajabba look in a bit of trouble when challenging the leaders before asserting near the line. The selection didn’t appear to gallop as straight as she did in her previous race with her head shifting to the right quite a bit in the home straight. I don’t think she has come forward from her previous effort as much as she should have. The two races were run different in that yesterday’s race was five and a half seconds slower to the two furlong pole, and she was only (0.25) seconds faster coming home. Result 2nd 13/2 adv…10/3 SP (Rule 4 50p)

0.5pt e/way Smooth Silesie (104) – A two length per mile slower effort than her latest one behind Darlo Pride from a better draw yesterday. The opening prices of 14/1 the night before looked overgenerous, and she looked worth an interest despite having her third race in seventeen days. She looked to do everything right racing prominently, and leading inside the final furlong before being headed near the line. There should be a win in her this all-weather season going forward. Result 2nd 11/1, 10/1 adv…10/3JF SP (Rule 4 20p)

0.5pt e/way Crimson Sand (110) – The selection recorded the exact number I had in mind for him just failing to find an extra gear inside the final furlong. The race was easily the fastest on the card, and should prove strong form for the grade going forward. Trainer Mark Loughnane has finally produced the winner Coachello (112) at his best following a disappointing turf campaign and a sixteen pounds drop in the handicap. He shouldn’t go up too much for this and looks one to keep an eye on for the season ahead.

Today’s Advice

Justcallmepete (7f 1y Hcap) – The selection returned from a 116 day break this March rated 13lbs higher than he is for today’s (2.14) Lingfield. it has been a quiet season with just the one win over six furlongs at Newbury, and some below par performances on the all-weather. His most recent effort twelve days ago was much more like it when he only went down by a head to Bravo Zulu over seven furlongs at Southwell when recording a (107) speed figure. He did seem to think about it a bit in the home straight having taken up the running over a fiurlong from home, but was battling back near the line when headed inside the final furlong. He might not have that consistency that he has had in the past, but at the prices on offer today looks worth a small interest having won at this venue in the past. The favourite Monsieur Beaulieu looks a real danger having won as he liked by five lengths from a seven pound lower mark earlier this month. There looks to be plenty of pace in the contest with Dion Baker the likely front-runner, and prominent racers such as Revolutionise, Port Road and Vibrato in the contest. Joe Levey takes a valuable three pounds off, and hopefully he can make use of his decent draw in stall six.
