Today’s Advice

ALPHA CAPTURE (8f Hcap) – This six-year-old performed with credit on stable debut for Roger Fell last month over the mile at Newcastle. That race was slowly run on the night and the field split in two, but he still made good headway over a furlong out to win the race on his side. He managed to finish third beaten just a length and a half and rewarded each way backers at a generous starting price of 28/1. The handicapper has left him on the same mark for today’s (2.57) Pontefract and it is worth noting that he won second time out back in 2024 in Killarney for his previous trainer Willie Mullins. An unlucky second place finish behind Tachos last season at Leopardstown when not getting the clearest of runs in the finish was another strong piece of form with plenty of winners emerging from that contest shortly after.

His new trainer looks to have found him a decent opportunity today and although he has been priced correctly he looks worth an interest to record his fourth win on the level.

TONAL (8f 13y Hcap) – This son of Siyouni is well known to followers of this website as he has been selected on many occasions and he attempts to record his sixth win of the current all-weather season this evening for connections. He won nicely last time out over the mile at Chelmsford by a length from Shafdar following a 41 day break having led over a furlong from home. The handicapper has added another 6lbs for tonight’s (7.00) Southwell but he looks worth siding with again as he has yet to finish out of the frame in his last seven races. His best timefigures have come at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton but he did win comfortably by a length over tonight’s course and distance last October.

Regular pilot Ryan Kavangh is on board again and his five pound claim will come in handy for tonight’s contest. This will be a step up in class for the Ian Williams trained gelding but this doesn’t look the strongest of Class 2 contests we have seen this season.
