Renardeau (11f 219y Hcap) – This Ali Stronge trained gelding has not won a race in over three years, and opening shows may have looked correct when originally priced up as the outsider of the field for tonight’s (7.30) Kempton. However, a deeper look into the formbook shows that the son of Foxwedge has been performing better on the clock recently than before his 662 day absence in February. The form of his third place behind Later Darling over C&D, when beaten just over 1 length, has been boosted since with wins for the first, fifth and seventh. A (103) speed rating that day looks very competitive with today’s rivals, and a similar performance on the clock was put in lto at Lingfield over the extended 15f. The drop back in trip should help tonight, and he may be a little overpriced in the market.

Dark Side Thunder (6f Hcap) – Jessica Macey has really shown her training skills with this gelding having won five races with him since he opened his account from a handicap mark of (60) last season. He can show that he is still very competitive from a mark of (74) for tonight’s (8.00) Kempton. In fact the last two times he has been seen on sand have yielded two victories, once over C&D and the other time at Southwell. Most recently after a 103 day break he showed his well being when recording a (105) speed rating at Yarmouth when beaten just 3/4 length behind How Impressive, an identical performance on the clock to his last C&D win. Oliver Stammers takes over the ride from regular jockey Lewis Edmunds, and hopefully he can find a decent position from his draw in stall (9). He can race a liitle bit keen early on, and take a bit of rousting along before finishing strongly, so we will be looking for prominent racers Starproof and Ithra to provide a fairly run contest.
