Yesterday’s Review

0.75pt e/way Albegone (102) – A decent effort from the selection who looked all over the winner having raced prominently and taking up the running in the final furlong. This was the second time in a row he has been found wanting when hitting the front at the business end of a race. He could have done with even softer conditions. Result 2nd 5/1, 9/2 adv…100/30J SP.

0.5pt e/way Highjacked (103) – A solid performance from the selection who didn’t have the extra gear needed over a furlong out having been hampered before keeping on nicely at the finish for a place. Result 3rd 11/2 adv…6/1 SP.

1pt win Avondale (101) – A race that went exactly as anticipated for the winner, tracking the pace and kicking clear entering the home straight. The runner-up Palo Duro looked a little unlucky, and will surely be winning soon. Result 1st 9/2, 4/1 adv…5/2F SP.

0.5pt e/way Rockview Roman (90) – No response from the selection when asked to find an extra gear at the business end of the race. Clearly something amiss here having been backed from 33/1 into 16/1.

0.5pt e/way Petra Celera (99) – A lower number on the clock than I had in mind for her taking her Southwell effort into consideration. However, it was a performance in line with her two previous course efforts, and it may be that a flat track suits her better. Thankfully she battled hard for the place at a much higher price than expected in the end. Result 4th 10/1, 9/1 adv…16/1 SP.

Today’s Advice

Surpass And Shine (7f Hcap) – This three-year-old colt performed admirably from a wide draw last time out over the extended seven furlongs at Leopardstown beaten just a half a length behind Perfect Judgement. On that occasion he was stepping up in trip for the first time, and after taking up the running over four furlongs out was just collared in the final strides. Today’s (5.25) Cork looks to be a weaker contest, and the handicapper has only raised him two pounds for that effort. He has been well found by the market, but warrants a sporting interest at his current price.
