Today’s Advice

TRADITION (1800M Class 5 Hcap) – This five-year-old has yet to win a race in Hong Kong from twenty attempts. He has put in some decent efforts recently with a second place finish behind Verbier, and was noted finishing well behind Yoda’s Choice on the dirt at Sha Tin over today’s distance. Last time out over the 1650m trip he didn’t get the clearest of runs when coming with a challenge in the home straight behind Cool Blue before keeping on at the finish.

Harry Bentley takes the ride again, and he knows him well having been on board last time out. He has a decent draw in stall two for this morning’s (11.40) Happy Valley, and with a bit of luck in running should be challenging at the business end of the race.

NEW POWER (1200M Class 4 Hcap) – This Michael Chang trained four-year-old has been knocking on the door in Class 4 company recently with close up finishes behind Super Sixty, Dragon Four Seas and Sky Cap all over course and distance. He has been consistent on the clock, and has a kind draw in stall three for today’s (1.40) Happy Valley.

Antoine Hamelin takes the ride again having been on board for his latest solid performance from stall ten, and although well found by the market this contest looks very winnable.

BEAUTY THUNDER (1200M Class 4 Hcap) – This four-year-old has taken his time to get the hang of things in Hong Kong since been switched from the Ger Lyons stable in Ireland. He first showed signs of intent when finishing in fifth place over course and distance behind Written Casa back in February. A wide draw didn’t help behind Power Koepp next time out, but he took the silver medal behind Stellar Swift last time out just going down by a neck having raced prominently.

He has been off for five weeks since, but assuming that he is raring to go for today’s (2.45) Happy Valley he looks a viable alternative to the obvious favourite Glory B. The favourite has been unlucky to be caught near the finish in his two latest races, and with a kind draw in stall four he looks sure to go close again.

NORTHERN FIREBALL (1200M Class 3 Hcap) – Favourite Crimson Flash won cosily near the line last time out from King Miles when sporting first time blinkers. He has been well found by the market today as the current short priced favourite, and if he can continue his progression looks a tough nut to crack.

The selection steps up in class here following a career best performance on the clock over course and distance last time out. He likes to race prominently, and has drawn an advantageous draw in stall three for today’s (3.50) Happy Valley. It will be interesting to see how the pace fares out with other prominent racer Sky Cap drawn wide in stall nine. Lucky Eight appears to be the other danger on the clock, and he will be closing from the rear having drawn the widest berth in stall eleven.

It looks a hot enough contest, and the selection may be better suited back in class, but I am happy enough to have a sporting interest at the odds on offer.
