SPEEDY SMARTIE (6f Hcap) – The (11.45) Sha Tin sees Monta Frutta put in as the short price favourite from a poor draw in stall eleven. The Brett Crawford trained Speedy Smartie looks a much more solid proposition having won nicely when last seen over this morning’s course and distance. I awarded him a strong (105) timefigure that day when he pinged the gates very quickly and kept on well to best future winners Double Bingo and Notthesillyone. He put in another solid shift on the turf last time out when chasing home Smart Golf and the third placed Amazing Partners has won since. Karis Teetan was on board for both races and he keeps the ride again this morning.

VULCANUS (6f Hcap) – Supreme Sea beat Monta Frutta nicely last time out over course and distance and kept finding to come home 1.75 lengths clear. He has been put in as the short priced favourite and the best may still to come. It may mean nothing that his racing weight has dropped from 1190lbs to 1179lbs for today’s contest but I am always wary of impressive horses on their second day at school. At the prices I will play the consistent Vulcanus who was drawn wide last time out in stall nine and faced a difficult task coming off a steadied pace in the home straight. A kinder draw today in stall one should see him return to his (105) timefigures over course and distance from October and December of last year.
