Botas (8f Handicap) – This lightly raced six-year old caught the eye last time out over course and distance when finishing well on seasonal debut after a 218 day break. On that occasion he raced from the worst draw of the field in stall fourteen, and had to make his challenge from the rear. Despite all that he still managed to record the fastest sectional in the third and final furlongs, and was also second fastest in the fifth furlong according to data from Course Track on the RacingTv website. The handicapper has dropped him a pound since for tonight’s (6.00) Kempton. He has raced more prominently in the past, and recorded a course and distance win from recent improver Billy Mill last August from a pound lower mark. His form also ties in well with overnight gamble Baltimore Boy from their race behind Helm Rock last September. Luke Catton takes a handy five pounds off his back again, and he has a decent 20% strike rate (11-54) when riding for the shrewd JIm Boyle stable since August 2019.
