Yesterday’s Review
0.75pt e/way Harswell Dandy (77) – A total flop from the selection, who was reported by jockey Tom Eaves to have ran flat. The straight track was riding very fast on the day, some nineteen lengths per mile faster than standard. I wouldn’t use the ground as an excuse, and it will be interesting to see how she gets on when conditions are not so fast.
Today’s Advice
Without Delay (7f 6y Hcap) – A slowly run race last time out at Musselburgh did not suit the selection, who raced far too keen early on, and had to make her challenge down the outside of the track. It may pay to put a line through that last effort as she returns to the scene of her course and distance win in June for the (4.10) Catterick. On that occasion she raced prominently behind a decent pace under today’s jockey Franny Norton before taking up the running over a furlong out and keeping on well at the line. She followed that effort up with an excellent third behind Reidh at Thirsk last month over seven furlongs in a race which has yielded two winners in Queens Road Revue and Miss Willows. With prominent racers such as Langholm, La La Lucrative, Beltane and Swinging Eddie in opposition, today’s race should be more truly run. With conditions more in her favour today she looks worth a sporting interest.
Skillman Ave (5f Lst) – This Gavin Cromwell trained two-year-old caught the eye eighteen days ago when finishing best over today’s course and distance just three quarters of a length behind Amazing Athena. The (105) speed figure reads very well in the context of today’s (5.18) Naas, and any improvement should see him very competitive. The first and fourth take each other on again, with the winner wearing first time cheekpieces for tonight’s contest, and it may pay to side with the fourth place finisher this time. That piece of form looks the most interesting on the clock for tonight’s Listed event.
Albeseeingyer (7f Hcap) – This five-year-old mare has been quiet since notching up five wins in a row last season for trainer Steph Hollinshead. Howver, last time out at Carlisle she caught the eye making late headway from the rear in a race where the first three home raced in the first four positions throughout the contest. The pace for tonight’s (7.50) Leicester looks to come from Inherit and Get The Music On, and if jockey Hollie Doyle can obtain a slightly better position than the selection had last time out she should go close to opening her account for the year.
Ash Wednesday (6f Hcap) – This Heather Main trained three-year-old recorded the fastest recent speed figure (99) of all tonight’s contenders for the (8.20) Leicester. On that occasion he was returning from a forty eight day absence from the track, and raced from the rear having been tardy on leaving the stalls. He eventually threaded his way through the opposition from an awkward position on the rails, and showed his first decent piece of form in five career starts. He is back out quick enough just seven days later, and we are still learning about him, so stakes will have to be kept low for these reasons. Hollie Doyle takes over from Trevor Whelan tonight, and she has a decent enough record (6 wins from 32 – 18.8%) when teaming up with the Main stable.
