ORIENTAL SURPRISE (5f Hcap) – The (10.40) Happy Valley looks an interesting contest with plenty of the contenders having their first race in over five weeks. Spicy Spangle looks to be the confirmed pace in the race and he is drawn much better than he has been in recent races to attack from the front. He does look the right price in the market and his most recent efforts could be a bit stronger.
The selection looks a bit overpriced mainly due to his wide draw in stall twelve. He does have some decent performances on the clock in the past from wide draws and although still a maiden his latest effort over course and distance behind Macanese Master and when beaten a neck by recent winner Speedy Smartie back in November would see him in with a chance.
STRAIGHT TO GLORY (6f Hcap) – Ace Power has been put in as the short priced favourite for the (11.40) Happy Valley but I was happy to take him on with the selection who recorded a strong (106) timefigure over course and distance last time out and should find himself in a better early position if jockey KC Leung can have him exit the stalls properly. A reproduction of his latest effort when racing prominently would see him in with a strong chance for the victory.
BEAUTY THUNDER (5f Hcap) – The selection looked a shade unlucky to be nutted on the line by Bunta Baby when last seen over course and distance and with that rival returning from a 49 day absence and with the champion Zac Purton on board this five-year-old may be able to return to the winner’s enclosure now returned to turf. I am willing to put a line through his latest effort on the dirt when only finishing in sixth place and will be hoping for a return to form this morning. It should be noted that a couple of his closest rivals in Super Sixty and Fun Elite are also returning from longish breaks.
