Today’s Advice

GILET/CHALK MOUNTAIN (8f Hcap) – The (7.00) Kempton looks an interesting contest given that the front two in the betting have been more known for their exploits on the turf so far. Short price favourite Venetian Lion has racked up a hat-trick over the mile recently and as he has been winning by small margins he has only gone up 16lb. He has placed on the tapeta at Southwell back in July, and tonight’s surface more than likely should prove no problem, but I can let him win at the prices. Silent City has yet to race on the all-weather but has some solid turf performances behind Naga and Luna Celeste at Newmarket before flopping last time out at Windsor.

The former selection has some solid efforts over course and distance behind Brasil Power last December and High On Hope back in January. He made up a lot of ground behind the George Boughey trained six-year-old (who has won three times since) to only go down by a length at the finish, and while he may have appeared a shade disappointing when beaten a length and a half behind High on Hope as a short price favourite back in January, it was a career best (107) timefigure at the weights. He has been absent this season until keeping on in 6th place over an inadequate 7f at tonight’s venue early on in the month and he looks one to keep an eye on this winter on the sand.

The latter selection has been a shade unlucky recently with the draw and slowly run races but is a consistent type that should give his running and is due another win sooner than later. He was drawn widest of all last time out over 7f at tonight’s venue and ran on well after not getting the clearest of runs from the rear behind impressive winner Luansobe. Stall one may not be ideal again tonight but at the prices he looks worth an interest.

TIERNAN (11f Hcap) – This four-year-old showed a decent amount of talent early on in his career and was rated 101 just over a year ago. He has dropped down the handicap ratings since and found his level when winning a novice race by 4 lengths when racing prominently over 11f at Hamilton. He put in a career best (111) timefigure when last seen at tonight’s venue over 12f when closing fast on the Jane chapple-Hyam trained Primo Lara. Drawn widest of all jockey Rossa Ryan had to sit in and take his medicine before making very good headway to hit the frame. I am willing to allow him his latest performance on a soft surface at Ayr and I expect jockey Tom Marquand to have him racing prominently from stall one for tonight’s (8.00) Kempton. The handicapper has left him relatively alone at the weights since returning to form and judging by his only all-weather performance he looks nicely treated at the moment.
