Today’s Advice
Picpoul (10f 150Y Hcap) – This six-year-old produced a career best (108) speed figure on the clock when finishing 3 1/4 lengths ahead of Breagagh over C&D last month under today’s jockey Robert Whearty. The daughter of Gale Force Ten appreciated the decent pace on that occasion, and the race has already thrown up 28/1 winner Gatsby Cap. She finshed third last time out over C&D behind Garrick Painter in a slowly run race, beaten 2 1/4 lengths, when she was denied a clear run in the home straight. A reproduction of her second last run would see her still well handicapped from a handicap mark of 66. Apprentice jockey Robert Whearty takes a useful five pounds off her back for today’s (2.00) Dundalk. Hopefully, today’s race can be more truly run with the likes of Construct and May Night in the field to put some pace pressure on Garrick Painter. It has been 42 days since the selection has been seen resulting in a smaller stake.
Arbaawi (7f Hcap) – Rebecca’s Girl caught the eye last time out over six furlongs behind Havana Notion following a 120 day break when staying on inside the final furlong. According to Course Track sectionals she recorded the fastest final two furlongs of the field in 11.69secs and 12.40secs. Unfortunately, she has been well found in the market for today’s (3.35) Dundalk, and is currently trading as the overall 11/4 favourite. Arbaawi looks a better value selection considering he also recorded the fastest final furlong of the field last time out over the mile at this venue in 12.41secs, and is currently trading at a much more appealing price. On that occasion he was ridden by ten pound claiming jockey Alysse Clarke, and was also denied a clear run in the home straight (which went unreported in the race comments). The ex-Stuart Williams trained four-year-old has recorded some decent efforts on the clock from handicap marks in the mid 60’s and recorded a (103) speed figure behind Liberty Mountain at Wolverhampton over the extended seven furlongs last October. The handicapper has dropped him to a mark of 62 now, and apprentice James Ryan takes another five pounds off his back. It may be that his best distance going forward will prove a mile, but he looks overpriced for today’s contest considering his most recent effort behind Gatsby Cap following an 83 day break. We will be hoping for a decent pace today from Chummie and Jazzy Dancer.
