Kyrus Dragon (6f Hcap) – This five-year-old had been given too much to do his last two races over today’s course and distance, and with Karis Teetan back on board (who was successful when last riding the horse) any type of a better early position achieved should see him go close in today’s (2.15) Happy Valley. Last time out he raced near last and was making headway when the leaders had already flown so was allowed to coast home under Hugh Bowman. A similar early position was taken up by Colin Keane the time before that, and he passed every horse except the winner Aurora Lady (who won again since). I am looking for a midfield early position for the selection from jockey Karis Teetan, and from a kind draw in stall four this should be achievable. From there he should at least give his true running, and will have every chance at the finish. Short priced favourite Spicy Gold has been well found by the market, but he did finish behind the selection last time out off a 49 day break.
Drumstick (8f Hcap) – This lightly raced four-year-old is still learning his trade, and his fourth placed finish behind Dembe (when given a lot to do) ranks very highly on the clock among today’s contestants for the (7.00) Kempton. On that occasion he raced in midfield from a wide draw in stall nine, and couldn’t find a clear passage through at the business end before running on well at the finish. Last time out he raced prominently over the mile at Newcastle while racing keenly and was headed inside the final furlong after leading over a furlong out. A kind draw in stall four tonight should see him find a nice position under veteran jockey Neil Callan, and with not much pace on paper he should be able to wind him up early enough in the straight for the sprint home. Saturnalia looks a live danger having caught the eye last time out at Lingfield, and he finds himself two pounds below his last winning handicap mark.
