Today’s Advice
DESPERATE DAN/GOOD HEAVENS (8f 75y Hcap) – The (3.28) Nottingham has two last time out turf winners that should handle today’s Good to Soft (Soft) conditions. The former won at Windsor over the mile last time out in a strong time having to be rousted along to get on top by a length at the finish over the Hughie Morrison trained Dalmally. He has won over course and distance in the past and has handled soft and heavy conditions while also winning this race last year by five lengths. Neil Callan is back on board again and everything looks in place for a solid performance.
The latter has dropped a long way down the handicap, having been rated 17lbs higher in the past when trained by Joseph O’Brien. He came back to form last time out for the John & Sean Quinn stable when coming from last to first at Pontefract to win by a length and a quarter in a fast time. The ground was geniuinely Good to Soft on that occasion. Conditions are a bit slower today and he has to back that up as well, but I can’t resist a small play at the odds on offer.
BEAR ISLAND (8f Hcap) – This David Menuisier trained three-year-old returns to the scene of his last win over the mile at Kempton back in July, and the handicapper has left him alone following a fine fourth place behind recent winner Bin Ajwad at Southwell. He has been well found by the market for tonight’s (7.10) Kempton but looks well worth an interest with past winning jockey Rossa Ryan back on board.
The likeable grey was given too much to do last time out, and more forward tactics from a kind draw should see him difficult to beat tonight.
