Yesterday’s Review

1pt eway Vulcanus (105) – A career best performance on the clock from the selection who showed great determination to battle from behind for a neck victory despite a wide trip. It was a fine ride from jockey Hugh Bowman and the horse has been steadily improving physically recently judging by the increase in his weight measurements with each race. Result 1st 6/1, 11/2 adv…56/10 SP.

1pt win Equion (96) – The selection looked to be travelling well as the race was hotting up in the home straight but failed to find much in the finish. This was well below what was expected as he was backed from 10/3 into 6/4 favourite. Hopefully, he can return to his best before the season is over.

1pt win Wyld Bill (103) – This was a length per mile below his recent impressive victory and he never travelled with the same ease as he did the last day. Jockey Ray Dawson was rowing along over three furlongs from home and the horse looked uncomfortable racing wide around the bends at the business end of the race. Another one that was getting hammered in the betting as I was writing my blog yesterday morning as he was backed from 3/1 into 6/4 but never looked the same horse. It will be interesting to see how the sectional times come back when they are published.

0.5pt e/way treble Vulcanus, Equion, Wyld Bill.

Today’s Advice

BRUSSELS (5f Gd1) – This Aidan O’Brien two-year-old tops the timefigure charts for tonight’s (9.45) Del Mar and it looks like he is starting to get his act together since the tongue tie was applied two runs ago. On that occasion he recorded his best 107 RPR rating of his career and best timefigure (106) when racing keenly in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes from a prominent position. He took up the running over a furlong from home and was headed near the finish having travelled nicely but was worried out of the victory by the winner.

The drop back in trip to the minimum last time out brought about even more improvement in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes. He travelled beautifully once again and despite having to be switched took up the running inside the final furlong before getting outpointed by a nose from a runner further away from him on the track. He recorded a career best (113) timefigure on the day.

A big type he still looks like he has plenty of growing to do, but he has loads of ability, and he has drawn an inside berth in stall one for tonight’s contest. The race should be set up perfectly for him and it will all be about whether the gaps open for him at the right time. Christophe Soumillon takes the ride again and with a bit of luck he should go close and looks the right price for an interest.
