Yesterday’s Review
1pt e/way Amemri (90) – The selection took a false step at the road crossing and was allowed to come home in her own time. She finished in front of the winner Faoladh (94) at Limerick last time out and will be worth another chance at a more conventional track going forward.
0.5pt e/way Queen Of Newark (86) – The selection made her way to the front after 2 furlongs but weakened over a furlong from home when asked to find another gear. It’s possible the change in the going to Good (Good to Firm in places) was not to her liking. A disappointing performance.
Today’s Advice
GRANT WOOD (5f 182y Hcap) – This seven-year-old has been improving on the clock all winter and has taken that forward onto the turf with an excellent third place finish at Ripon over 6f recently. Following a stall malfunction the race was started by flag and the selection was quickly away and raced up with the pace. He was just worried out of the win at the finish coming home a half length behind the improving winner U Sure Do. The handicapper has left him alone for that performance and he is just 2lb above his last winning mark from 2024. Interestingly, he has ran well at a right-handed track in the past when finishing runner-up at Leicester over 7f back in 2022. He looks a shade overpriced for today’s (2.00) Carlisle from a decent draw in stall 4 and with Tom Eaves on board.
PALMAR BAY (7f Hcap) – The (3.30) Chester looks an interesting contest with short priced favourite Supido dropping back in trip following a decent win over the 7.5f trip at today’s venue. It was a much improved winning effort on seasonal debut which resulted in a (111) timefigure on the day. The handicapper has raised him 4lb and if he is in the same form he should go close. At the prices I prefer the selection who has plenty of form over today’s trip having won very nicely here last August by 2.5 lengths. He has been a bit quiet since but performed with credit his last two races having came home in fourth place when upped to Listed class behind Lake Forest last time out and put in a (110) timefigure from a wide draw behind Cool Hoof Luke at Wolverhampton. If he is in the same mood as his past course and distance win he might give the favourite something to think about.
