Sunday 23rd April 2023 Selections and Review

Yesterday’s Review

A disappointing day yesterday with a couple of poor selections and a few races where things didn’t go our way.

0.5pt e/way Aljady – A race where the selection didn’t want to put his best foot forward in the early stages. His young rider worked a bit of a miracle getting him to place. The fact that Tawaazon won the race, who he beat by over 2 lengths last time out, highlights how much of a missed opportunity it was. Result 5th 8/1, 15/2 adv SP 7/1…

0.5pt e/way Kapono – An off day from the selection here unfortunately. The fact that Cold Stare came from a similar position leaves no excuse for Roger Fell’s gelding, unless something else comes to light. I know I wouldn’t have been very happy if I had backed Ramiro.

0.5pt e/way Impressor – A race not run to suit the selection, unfortunately. Four of the first six at the halfway stage filled four of the first five positions. A race where it helped to race prominently. A positive mention for Slainte Mhath who ran a lovely race considering the race set-up.

0.5pt e/way Cmon Kenny – A poor selection from myself considering the horse hadn’t been seen in over 400 days and had no form on ground as testing in the past. The fact that he was gambled into 15/2 indicates that there were others who were expecting a better performance.

0.5pt e/way Gunsight – Going into this race I had three horses on the shortlist, Master Dunraven (104), St Faz (103) and Gunsight (101). I went with the selection in the end purely on pedigree as the first two weren’t as stout. As it turned out the race was the slowest run on the card and the winner recorded the pedestrian speed figure of (86). The first two horses all the way round filled the first two positions. Not the type of race we were hoping for.

0.5pt e/way Rivas Rob Roy – Another poor selection from me here. The horse’s best form is over further and he was easily put in his place.
