Yesterday’s Review
0.5pt e/way La Forza – Another great piece of training from Marcus Tregoning that just failed by a neck to strike gold. As the write-up showed he has a track record of doing this and the prices on offer underrated his chance. It turned into a slowly run race and the winner Blue Hero recorded a speed figure of just (95). Difficult to say if the early move four wide on the home turn cost the victory as his pedigree contains a decent amount of stamina. Result 2nd 22/1 adv…SP 16/1
1pt e/way Carp Kid – A remarkable performance from the selection who managed to finish fourth after giving away five to six lengths to the winner at the start. I’m not sure if immediately rushing up to the lead was the best move from Taylor Fisher. Without all that I’m sure he would have gone very close to winning. Athough some firms were paying four places he will go down as a loser as only three places were on offer generally.
0.5pt e/way Bbob Alula – Ran no sort of race and was a well beaten last by 22.75L.
Today’s Advice
Lionella (12f 5y Handicap) It’s not always a good idea taking on an improving Sir Mark Prescott 3-y-o. As we have seen in the past we never know where their ceiling is. However this is usually reflected in the market and True Legend is a short price favourite for the (4.55) Salisbury. He looked a difficult enough ride when recording a (100) speed figure at Newcastle over today’s distance. The selection recorded a (101) speed figure over 12f also on the sand for trainer Alan King at Lingfield last time out. That was her first run in 170 days and, as her pedigree suggested, she appreciated the step up in trip. Her dam Ensaya won on Turf at Compiegne in 2010, so we may well see a similar effort on today’s surface. The market may have underrated her chance today.
Zabbie (8f Handicap) Another filly that should appreciate a step up in trip for the (5.45) Newmarket is the Richard Hannon trained daughter of Poet’s Word. A career best speed figure of (105) was recorded last time out at Goodwood. Racing over 7f that day she was keeping on at the finish to go down by just a neck to Gary Moore’s 3-y-o Novus. There wasn’t much footage to see that day due to fog. We can however see her second place effort behind Coco Jamboo, at today’s track, last September when staying on nicely at the finish. The Charlie Appleby trained filly Star Guest heads the market following three efforts on the All-Weather and returns after a 124 day break. Enough boxes are ticked for the selection to warrant an interest at the prices today.
