Yesterday’s Review

1pt e/way Yaaser – The fast pace that appeared to be in the race on paper never really materialised. Mountbatten made all the running with a (105.34%) Race Finish which wouldn’t have been ideal for the selection. He still managed to sneak into the places. I thought his price was very short, hence the BOG caveat. There was no let up on the gamble during the day. Hopefully, Jim Goldie’s gelding can find a race run fast enough to suit his hold up style. Result 3rd 4/1 adv…SP 85/40F

1pt e/way Two Tempting – Johnny Portman’s gelding didn’t exit the stalls properly which proved costly at the business end of the race. This went unreported in the comments in running. As we know, every little detail matters in this sport. It was nice to see a return to form but overall a frustrating defeat by the narrowest of margins. Result 2nd 5/1 adv….SP 5/2F

Today’s Advice

Sunfyre (6f 212y Hcap) Brian Ellison’s gelding managed a decent third place finish on seasonal debut lto over the extended 7f at Ayr. The handicapper has left him unchanged from a mark (69) for The George Formby Handicap at Haydock (5.40). Danny Tudhope’s mount recorded a speed figure of (99) that day despite an outside draw in stall (6) and also having to be switched at the business end of the race. While there are a few unexposed types in today’s field, and a dual All-Weather winner in Vasilissa, perhaps the market has underestimated his chance today at a double figure price.

Hackman (5f 10y Listed) Hugo Palmer’s exciting colt get’s the chance to show he can be just as effective on a quicker surface tonight at Sandown (6.42). The son of Mehmas recorded a big speed figure (112) lto at Chester. There is a possibilty that the figure has been slightly inflated with the way the track was riding that day, but at the prices available he is worth a sporting interest. Tonight’s draw in stall (1) could be ideal for a front runner against the rail and he could prove difficult to peg back.

Tables Turned (10f Hcap) Phil McEntee’s gelding steps up in trip, to a distance more suited to his pedigree, in the last race at Chelmsford (8.52). Racing over 7f lately, the son of Ulysses has been staying on at the finish and recorded a decent speed figure of (103) lto at this venue. Mick & David Easterby’s favourite Calcutta Dream looks the one to beat but I am happy having an each way play at a big price.
