Yesterday’s Review
0.5pt ew She’s A Novelty – I often ask myself when I see frustrating rides like these where selections get held up so far back, and just miss out on the win by less than a length: “Do you have to be so far last?” In the end the race was slowly run and the mare was running on at the finish closing down the winner too late. A missed opportunity for a 25/1 winner. Result 2nd 25/1, 22/1…SP 16/1
1pt ew Not Too Real Bad – Not Too Real Bad (100) never got a proper chance to reproduce her Cork effort. Four of the first six at the 3f pole finished in the first six. The selection never got a clear run through and every door Chris Hayes went to open got slammed in his face. She will be worth another chance going forward.
0.5 pt e/way Second Slip – Looking at the pictures before the race it looked very much like the selection was a good bit from being fully fit for the race. Another slowly run race where the first six at the finish were in the first eight places approaching the 3f pole. I’m not a fan of jockeys going for that inside run at the cutaway at Kempton and that’s what Danny Muscutt went for. Overall, it looked to me like the horse was only out for a spin (despite being backed from 12/1 into 9/2) and he was only given a hands and heels ride all the way up the straight.
Today’s Advice
0.5pt e/way Howth (10f Hcap) Having landed on Mick Appleby’s gelding when unlucky over C/D last November at 33/1 I must have a small interest on him again in the (8.20) Chelmsford. A hold up performer that will need luck in running and only shows flashes of form is never the best conveyance but that’s why we get a double figure price. Maybe Billy Loughnane can work his magic on him tonight. It will be very much needed on this horse.
2pts e/way Summer Snow (8f Hcap) The formline I like for the (8.30) Leopardstown is the rematch between Summer Snow (101) and Angel’s Feather (99) from Cork 22 days ago. A simple calculation of the weights and measures would say that Jessica Harrington’s filly is 4lb better off for a 1L beating and she would be the obvious choice. However, on viewing the video the trip Ross O’Sullivan’s filly had was desparate to say the least. Held up in rear she had to be switched many times from one side of the track to the opposite side before storming clear. There is a danger that a lot of that was to do with hanging to the right and that mightn’t be a great habit on a track like Leopardstown. I’m willing to take a chance that she can be kept under control a bit better tonight.
